  1. Duties of LP/ ALP in case of fire in passenger train:
  • Stop the train immediately
  • Switch on flasher light
  • Detrain the passengers first
  • Give FIR to all concerned (KM, time, nature of fire etc)
  • If there is any postal van on the train, save mails
  • Disconnect electrical fittings in coach
  • Extinguish the fire with the fire extinguisher
  • Isolate burning vehicle at least distance of 45 mts on both end
  • Give first aid to the injured persons
  • Try to shift injured persons to the nearest hospitals
  • Protect the train as per GR 6.03
  • LP and ALP should help in rescue, relief and restoration operations
  • LP / ALP should not leave the site until relief arrives

 

  1. Adjacent line protection:
    Always 600 – 600 – 10 – 10 meters in the all system of working by placing 4 detonators and on return collect Intermediate detonator.

 

  1. Duty after Single detonator Burst:
  • Control the train by LP & proceed cautiously.
  • Give intermittent whistle.
  • Proceed up to 1.5 km cautiously, if any abnormality could not be noticed pick up normal speed and give information to the S.M. of the next station.

 

  1. LP/ALP/GD(TMR) duties in case of block ticket working:
  • When the train is stopped by S.M for sending a train /L.E/Banker power/ A.R.M.E/ A.R.T./ etc., in an obstructed block section, proceed with the authority to proceed without L/C – T/A 602 in the A.B system or (T/C 912+T/A912) in case of automatic block system issued to LP/GD by the S.M.
  • Speed restriction is always., 15/10 on block ticket.
  • On arrival of rear or next station that block ticket should be handed over to the S.M by LP/Gd of an engine with remarks of the section.
  • At the place of obstruction KM, L.S.S. passed at on, I.B. Passed at ón, section Caution Order. mention on the block ticket.

 

  1. LP/ALP Duties during Dead engine attaching:
  • In normal case, always dead engine should be attached in the rear of the leading engine.
  • Dead engine can be attached as per this data.

  • In 1 in 100 down gradient dead engine should not be attached in rear for all Trains (Goods & Coaching).
    In case of a dead engine attached in the rear of a train it should be manned (LP/LI/ALP), hand brakes should be in proper working order, L.V Indicator should be placed in the rear of the engine and it should be piped.

    1. Duties of LP / ALP In case of wheel-slipping:
    • Note KM no. and extent of damage carefully.
    • Inform TLC/SCR/power controller regarding assistance required.
    • Inform to SM of the next station ahead in writing (Full Particulars).
    • In case the track, in his opinion not safe for passage of trains at the Normal speed, take necessary action as per SR 6.07.01

     

    1. Duties of LP/ALP in case of storm /cyclone strong wind:
    • In case any train caught on run between stations during cyclone or strong wind and in his opinion (LP) is likely to endanger to the safety of the train, immediately control the speed and stop the train in the first convenient place to avoid sharp curves, bridges.
    • LP should take care to avoid any jerk while stopping.
    • In case coaching train try to open doors and windows of the coaches with help of the GD. or Rly staff in train for free passage of wind through the coaches.
    • Note time and inform TLC/SCR /Coaching control/SM.
    • LP shall restart the train in consultation with the guard only after the cyclone/storm/or wind abates.

     

    1. Duties of LP/ALP in case of Engine lurching or swaving:
    • If LP experiences heavy lurch, hunting or swaying in the engine he should note time and KM.
    • LP should proceed cautiously up to the next station and report the facts in writing to the next SM/TLC/SCR.
    • LP should inform in this report whether assistance is required or he will be able to continue the journey up to the shed.
    • By consulting with TLC/SCR and on their advice, SM may allow the engine by light or with the train up to the next engine changing station.

     

    1. Duties of LP/ALP in case of bad riding attributed to any defect in the permanent way:
    • LP should note the km as accurately as possible at which bad riding has occurred.
    • Note the time.
    • LP shall stop the train at the next station without clearing B.O.L and hand over a written memo to SM.
    • LP should note the exact location and the nature of the defect noticed. In S/L section LP shall not hand over authority to proceed till he has issued the message to the S.M on duty of next station.
    • He shall make a report of the occurrence to the crew controller on arrival of the crew lobby.
    • Note: - In all cases of bad riding to any defect in the P.Way noticed by LP/ALP/Gd. shall act as per G.R 6.07.01, 6.07.02, 6.07.03 accordingly.

     

    1. Duties of LP in case of Train backing in section:
    • Due to any abnormality, train can be backed in section with walking speed
    • LP shall inform the GD for backing in section.
    • In this case Gd. should give one written memo to LP for backing the train and take signature of LP in another memo by Gds. (The A.B section)
    • In case of I.B section or auto section train can't be backed, but in case of unavoidable circumstance, LP can inform Gd. for backing.
    • Guard/ TMR will ask rear SM for permission from I.B telephone, if no train is sent up to I.B.by SM,. SM can give P.N to Gd. for backing.
    • Guard/ TMR should prepare two copies supported by P.N and one copy should be handed over to LP and take acknowledgment in another copy.
    • In case of Auto section if no train is sent in rear of that train, S.M shall give P.N to Gd. by any means of communication, so Gd. do the duties as I.B. zone area; LP act accordingly.
    • Train can be backed by lowering home signal by S.M in near station or P/In; on D/L section Train is P/In, (T/369 (3b).

     

    1. Shunting authorities / shunting precautions to be taken by LP/ALP; during shunting:

    Shunting Authorities:

    1. Within the station section if shunting performed by signals; shunting memo not required, shunting particulars should be given to LP by verbal orders/ written memo.
    2. If shunt signal defective T/806 should be issued + P.H.S.
    3. If shunting beyond the station section, T/806 + B/B or B/F P.N issued.

    Shunting Precautions:

    1. Normal shunting speed maximum up to 15kmph.
    2. Inflammable articles shunting speed up to 8kmph.
    3. In case of Ghat section, engine always should be in down gradient.
    4. In ghat section loose shunting, hand shunting prohibited.
    5. Un-affected shunting portion should be secured first before shunting commenced.
    6. Utmost care is required during shunting.

     

    1. Duties of LP when distant signal is no light:
    • Stop the train and give a prescribed whistle.
    • Ensure (P) marker.
    • Inform to Gd. and start the train continuously up to the home signal and obey home signal aspect.
    • Give information to SM by writing regarding failure.
    • At destination mention in the S&T Failure book in the crew lobby.

     

    1. LP Duties in case of Home signal defective:
    • LP should stop the train and blow continuous long whistle.
    • If calling on signal is lowered, LP start the train cautiously and be prepared to stop any short of obstruction.
    • If there is no calling on signal, if telephone is provided, take P.N from S.M and ensure all facing & trailing points are correctly set and locked with the speed of maximum 15kmph.
    • If written memo T/369(3b) issued, LP start the train with speed of maximum 15kmph ensure all facing & trailing points are correctly set & locked.
    • In case T/369 (369(1)) issued in rear stn. or last stopping station, LP maintain sectional speed and ensure P.H.S at home signal and proceed with maximum 15kmph by ensuring facing & trailing is set and locked.

     

    1. In case starter defective duties of LP:
    • If calling on signal is lowered, proceed cautiously.
    • If T/369 (3b) is given, ensure P.H.S by LP at starter and proceed maximum speed of 15kmph to pass the starter and ensure facing & trailing points correctly set & locked.

     

    1. LP duties in case of head light defective:
    • Switch on marker lights, maintain speed not more than 20kmph. (Night, Thick & foggy weather)
    • Give whistle frequently.
    • Inform to the TLC, SM of the next Stn. for repair of head light.
    • LP can proceed upto repair station or engine changing station. If marker lights also failed, LP should clear one block section with walking speed.

     

    1. LP duties In case of leading driving cab defective:
    • Inform to TLC /SM, of the next stn.
    • ALP shall work the train from the trailing cab.
    • The LP remain in leading cab for the correct operation of the train
    • Proceed with the speed not exceeding 40kmph up to the repairing Stn.

     

    1. LP Duties in case of speedometer not working:
    • LP shall work the train at a speed of 10% less than M.P.S.
    • Calculation of a speed :-(Formula).
      Total no. of. electric masts passed in one minute x 4.3 = ___kmph
      (60 x 60) / Time taken to cover one km in seconds = ______kmph

     

    1. LP Duties in case of leading cab horn defective:
    • In daytime – maximum 40kmph speed up to the destination.
    • In night – LP should clear only one block section with 40kmph
    • ALP should blow the whistle if required from the rear cab while on run.

     

    1. If LP is incapacitated:
    • If ALP is not duly qualified, he should stop the train and inform all concerned, and should not start the train.
    • If ALP is duly qualified, inform all concerned, clear the section with maximum 25kmph speed. (only one block section).

     

    1. During thick, foggy and tempestuous weather LP duties:
    • Green aspect → Speed is maximum 60kmph if fog signal device is not provided in engine or up to 75kmph in case fog signal device is provided.
    • Attention (YY) → Speed up to 30kmph
    • Caution (Y) → Cautious speed
    • Red in Auto signal → maximum 10kmph upto next signal

     

    1. Duties of LP in case of T.S.L working:
    • Authority T/D 602 should be obtained with P.N + ID.
    • First train speed is 25kmph and inform all gate man and track man in enroute.
    • 2nd and subsequent trains speed is normal.
    • Give frequent whistle.
    • In wrong direction: -
    • In addition to the above-mentioned rules give frequent whistle and switch on flasher light
    • Train will be P/I n (T/3699(3b))
    • Protection as per GR 6.03.

     

    1. Duties of LP In case of Auto signal on:
    • Stop the train and give a long continuous whistle.
    • Ensure A marker board, or illuminated marker.
    • Wait 1 minute in day time, 2 minutes in night.
    • Maintain speed 15/10kmph up to the next signal.

     

    1. Duties of LP in case of ADV starter defective/ (L.S.S):
    • On S/L section → T/C-1425 for up train → T/D-1425 for down train
    • On D/L section → T/369 (3b) + PN + ID. in the Absolute Block system.
    • In case of Auto section:
    • D/L → T/A 912 to be taken by LP
    • S/L → T/A912 + starting order to be taken.
    • Speed: - Normal In case L.S.S protecting any slip siding points with the Authority P.H.S, by station staff and maximum 15kmph to be maintained till the LSS is cleared by train.

     

    1. Duties of LP in case of shunt signal defective:
    • T/806 authority is given
    • H.S at shunt signal by the STN staff or shunting supervisor to be observed.
    • Ensure correct setting of points & locking.
    • Speed shall not exceed or 8kmph in case of inflammable articles and 15kmph for other loads to pass the signal (Defective shunt signal)
